Pertinent Observations on a random picture
Found an old picture last night. Here are some pertinent observations about that.
My wife has been organising her photos and other files from over the years, and yesterday she stumbled upon this photo from 2011. In some insane burst of enthu, both of us had signed up for the 5K as part of the TCS World 10K in Bangalore. After the “race” we had gone to my in-laws’ place in Rajajinagar (using a combination of walking and public transport), where this picture was taken.
A few random pertinent observations about this:
We’re both scrawny! 2010-11 was possibly the thinnest I’ve been in adulthood, following a 20 kg drop in late 2009.
Notice that I’m wearing the Saarang coordinator shirt from 2004 (my last year at IITM). I’d once again gone back to my “IITM size” then. And notice how this shirt was loose for me in 2011!
Back in those days, I used to wear a chain regularly! Can’t imagine that now.
I don’t ever remember owning a pair of white “sports shorts”. And those are LONG (almost as long as my wife’s capris)! Those that follow me on Twitter know about my nostalgia for “Sampras shorts”.
This was less than 6 months after marriage, and my wife hadn’t yet convinced me that wearing long socks with shorts can look funny (unless you’re a footballer or other sportsperson). Or maybe she had convinced me, but I didn’t have ankle socks then
I knew my Liverpool cap is old, but didn’t know it’s that old! I still own it, and am told that Adidas is coming back as the kit sponsor next season (after a decade of Warrior Sports / New Balance / Nike)
I wore my “formal watch” for a run! Then again, back then, that was the only watch I owned, and we had decided to not take our phones along (unthinkable nowadays), and I needed some source of time. I still have the same “formal watch”
As it happens, I’ve not “run” after that. I remember signing up for the (TCS World) 10K in 2013, but waking up on the morning with some insane backache, and deciding to not go. A year after that, I started lifting barbells and gave up on all other forms of exercise.
Anyways…

Add sandals to that and you'd be banished to uncledom.
That's still a good fashion for 2011! And men do like to go back to their comfy t-shirts however old they are :P (unless the wife dispatched it from the closet!)
