There is a lot to agree on here. I might also add that Youtube has so many obscure albums that, for some reason, Spotify has geo locked for me here in India. Their AI-powered "Daylists" are the only saving grace for me, as I have discovered some good things from them recently because their playlisting went down the drain. But YT Music is far superior to it in terms of both quality (its unreal after all these years, FLAC is not supported on Spotify) and quantity.
Curious why you didn’t return to Apple Music. I gave up on Spotify for similar reasons back in 2020 or so. Apple Music has been excellent for discovering new music that I enjoy, tho I am souring on the entire idea of “renting” music entirely.
I am yet to explore YT music with podcasts. I was a Google podcasts user and based on my experience with Amazon podcast listening and Spotify podcast listening, I find it inconvenient to have both music and podcast on the same app. They don't seem to understand what to do when I play 'next' while listening to music or podcast and switch to the other medium.
Playing music based on the genre or type is excellent on YT music. I hope YT music doesn't ruin when I start listening to podcasts on it.
Spotify has never been it for me. I love YT Music and it's the music app that has made me re-find the kind of joy I used to have from Winamp days.
Try Overcast.

i already have youtube premium (which music is bundled with), and the UX is decent

i was on spotify for both for the last 4-5 years, and so need to find something else for podcasts.
for now using apple podcasts
This is me 1 year ago. It started getting on my nerves, I stopped renewing. Now Spotify is offering me dirt cheap plans but I refuse to go back.
given the cost of subscription, bad UX means discounts will never work
You can try Castbox or Pocket Casts. Castbox has a clean UI (I felt)
Pocket Casts is also quite good but you would need the pro version to enjoy all the features.
tried pocket casts ages ago and didn't enjoy at all
